Nora McDonald was born in Washington to Francis O’ Donnell is a professional doctor. Though she was born in Washington, she shifted to San Francisco at the age of three with her parents. She spent her childhood years and completed her education to finally graduate from Douglas MacArthur High School. After that, she continued her education from the Georgetown University as a student of Philosophy. She achieved her Bachelor of Arts certificate in Philosophy after two years and did masters in liberal studies from the same university.

After completing her education, she started looking for job opportunities in San Francisco only till she established herself as a journalist and anchor. She has now married to her husband Geoff Tracy who is the owner of a restaurant and also has three children.
