Michael Eugene Joseph „Mike” Jerrick is an American news anchor on Channel Fox 29. He was born in 3th of July, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up in his hometown and attented Chaplain Kapaun Memorial High School, where he graduated in 1968. After, he completed his graduation in BS in journalism at the University of Kansas.
Mike Jerrick’s career
He began his career in Kansas, at Topeka WIBW-TV. Soon, his charisma took him to New York as producer, then host, before moving to KPIX-TV in San Francisco.
During the 80s, Jerrick worked as a co-host for the afternoon talk show Alive and Well. Also, he worked for HBO, in World Entertainment report, and then he moved to Sci-Fi Channel’s Sci-Fi Buzz. Later, he hosted on America’s Talking, a short-lived cable news channel, the show What’s News. Now he is co-hosting Fox 29’s Good Day Philadelphia and from time to time he is a substitute to Fox & Friends Week-end. He also was co-host with Juliet Huddy of the morning show The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet which began in January 2007 and lasted until June 2009. He had been nominated for a ‚Cable ACE Award’ , in 1994, for the show Sci-Fi Buzz. In Aprilie 2015, Mike Jerrick announced in his show, Good Day Philadelphia, his candidacy for Mayor of Philadelphia for the 2015 elections. Even he received a lot of support messages, he revealed that it has been an Aprilie Fools’ joke.
Personal life
He was married for the first time with Joy Jerrick and had two daughters, Jessica and Jill Jerrick. In 2009 his wife died and he made a depression. He took antidepressants and became addicted to drinking, in order to heal the pain of his wife’s death. Even though it was a dark period in his life, he managed to get back to the normal life. He checked in a wellness retreat, because he couldn’t handle it alone. Mike Jerrick said: „medication and alcohol have not done it for me and a combination of the two certainly has not been helpful”. His daughters encoraged him and stood by him all the healling process. When he returned from the center, he wrote on Facebook: „ I’ve missing hanging out with you. I’m rested and ready, so watch out!” Since 2014 Mike Jerrick is engaged with Shelda McDonald. They met at Grand Central Station.
Controversy
In January 2017 Mike Jerrick was suspended by Fox 29, because he claimed that President Donald Trump’s counseler Kellyanne Conway is „good at bulls”. He apologized immediately for his statement, but he was suspended for one week. The viewers showed him a lot of support during his absence, and he returned to the air on January 30.
