Michael Braxton

Michael (Mikey) Conrad Braxton Jr. was born on November 17, 1968. He is native of Severn, Maryland. He is known for being a member of the famous family of singers, The Braxtons.

Famous Family

His parents were Michael Braxton Sr. and Evelyn Braxton. Michael is the only one son of his parents and the rest his siblings are his bunch of sisters. His father is a retired preacher and occasional substitute teacher. His mother Evelyn was a famous opera singer. Before he became a preacher, his father worked for the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company. His mom, Evelyn was a native of Columbia, South Carolina where she met her future husband and father of Michael Jr.

Michael Jr’s siblings are Traci, Towanda, Trina, and Tamar Braxton. He was raised religiously along with his siblings. He attended choirs and attended religious tours. His parents divorced but there are no details as to how Michael took the divorce and separation. His father later remarried and started to live with his new wife in Baltimore. Michael’s relationship with his father’s second wife is not known to public. He never spoke about his father’s second marriage in public settings.

After their parents divorced in the early 2000s, there children were devastated but were able to move on by relying on each other.

Passion for Music

Michael was interested in music ever since he was a teenager, when his father Michael Sr. was a preacher in Severn, and his sisters were his choir and sang together.

Michael started his professional music career along with his sisters as a part of The Braxtons. He was a part of many songs when they performed as a group. He also appeared in a few episodes of the Braxton Family Values during season one.

Michael’s interest in the musical field showed itself came about during his teenage years. During this time, Michael’s sisters were singing in their father’s choir. According to Toni, his elder sister, the sisters’ first music experience always intrigued them. It was their younger sister Tamar, who was about 5 years then who started singing about toilet papers while in the bathroom. Since that time, all the family members joined her habit and composed a family “Toilet Paper Song.”

After some time, Michael decided to indulge in song writing as well as singing since it provided a means of self-expression. After years of song writing and singing his own compositions, Michael eventually released an album in 2012 which was his debut album. Some of his major songs include Under My Christmas and Take You There. Despite a short-lived career, Michael featured in numerous music bands as a supporting member.

The stardom and careers of Michael’s sisters overshadow Michael’s. Michael’s sisters have made a name for themselves as The Braxtons. Michael’s sister, Toni Braxton is the most successful of the bunch with a long solo career before she joined the family band. In 2015, all members of The Braxtons including Towanda, Toni, Trina, Tamar and Traci reunited in October and released Braxton Family Christmas, which was a holiday album.

He was never able to become a big solo music artist but he was grateful to share the stage with his famous sisters.

Reality TV Star

Michael also was a cast member of the reality TV show “Family Values” along with his sisters and mother. It was a big project of his sister, Toni. During the time that the show was on air, almost the whole Braxton family appeared including Michael’s daughter Ashlee.

In one episode of their reality show, Michael and his father went to Baltimore to visit one his sister’s, Tamar who just had surgery. In a write up by Respect Mag, the father and son duo were described to vey sympathetic, “Tamar Braxton can’t be late to her final appointment and Towanda Braxton is along for support. Tamar just had her last surgery for her Thoracic Outlet Syndrome that began last fall. She is waiting to be cleared and to hear all good news and gossip. Meanwhile, in Baltimore the waiting game is on. Michael Braxton, Sr. (Daddy) and their brother Michael Braxton, Jr. came to see about her as well. After some scarring Traci is on the road to recovery. The doctor lays out some orders and confirming six weeks it is before Kevin will see joy come in the morning. Towanda pops up to show her sisterly love and lends her high help.”

Life After Music and Fame

After a short career in music, he took up a career as a travelling nurse. Details of his educational background and progress in his nursing career are not known to public because Michael does not like his personal details out in public as much as his sisters.

Michael is reported to have been married twice and has four children. He has two sons and two daughters. There are no details to whom he was first married to and the reason for their divorce. It is unknown if his children are from his second marriage or from the first one.

He never opened up a lot about his personal life in the reality show his family was the star of. He almost became invisible to the media after quitting his music career. He is not known to have been in any celebrity relationship in the past. It is only known that he was involved with regular women and not stars but the names of his wives are not known. One of his daughters, Ashlee Braxton starred with the others in the Braxton Family Values reality show.

Michael is very secretive about his financial information. His monthly income, net worth and other details are not known to the public. He did not publish those details even when he had a music career.

Michael Braxton is happy and content to live in the shadow of his star singing sisters. After a long time in the music industry, he stopped and decided to give the dream up. He is now just happy to live a secure and simple life.
