Career
Keri’s R&B band was formed in the 1980s while at the Central High School. Lewis was previously a member of the band ‘Mint Condition’. The different genres in which the band played their songs were R&B, soul, funk, new jack swing, neo soul, rock and jazz. Lewis who played the key boards and synthesizer in Mint Condition had to leave the musical group so that he could focus on his married life with Tony Braxton. The members of the band were Stokley Williams , the lead vocalist, also the drummer and percussionist, Homer O’Dell, the guitarist, Larry Waddell , the keyboardist and piano player, Roger Lynch, ( son of Roger Troutman), Ray Coleman and Kenny Young. The young members of the group along with Lynch and Coleman had left the group and were replaced by the schoolmates, Lewis who played the keyboards and synthesizer, Jeffrey Allen, who played the saxophone and keyboards and the Chicago native Ricky Kinchen playing the bass guitar. This new list of members remained intact until Lewis had to quit in order to focus on his married life.

The songs of Mint Condition were nominated for awards for a number of times. In the Soul Train Music Awards, they were nominated for the Best R&B/Soul Album by a Group, Band or Duo and the song “What Kind Of Man Would I Be” (1997) was nominated for the Best R&B/Soul Single by a Group, Band or Duo. In Soul Track Reader’s Choice Awards, they had been the winners for the following awards - Independent Album Of The Year in the year 2013, Duo or Group of the Year in the consecutive years of 2008, 2011 and 2012. They also won the title of the Album of the Year in the year 2008. They were also nominated previously for Best R&B/Soul Album by a Duo or Group for “Livin’ the Luxury Brown in 2005 and for “Definition of a Band” in 1997.
