India Arie Simpson who was born on October 3 in the year 1975 in Denver, was the child of Joyce Simpson and Ralph Simpson. She had always wanted to be a singer and had special interest in playing guitar. She kept moving forward with her passion for music when she got admitted in the Savannah College of Art and Design. She learned songwriting in college and developed a sense of clear understanding towards her fans, which resulted from her song writing career. After getting her graduate degree, she started heading towards her career.

In the year 2001, during the month of March Arie stepped in her success for the first time when Acoustic Soul, her debut album, was released. It received a lot of positive reviews as well as success and obtained the tenth position on the U.S. Billboard 200. It even got the third position on the famous R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums. Acoustic Soul received the certificate of double platinum from the Recording Industry Association of America for its huge sale throughout the world. After this, the album received a Gold and Platinum certificate from the British Phonographic Industry and Music Canada. The particular album also received the permission for casting a video. This video also received great acclimations from the US Billboard Hot 100 and secured the forty-seventh place. Her second single from the same album, though failed to secure a place but gained the maximum popularity in United Kingdom with the twenty-ninth position.
After getting an overwhelmed success in the beginning of her career, Arie focused more on her work. She got the opportunity to perform the duo on the song Peaceful World with the well-known guitarist and rock singer John Mellencamp for the Cuttin’ Heads album. She performed another duo performance with Cassandra Wilson on Just Another Parade got the album Belly of the Sun in 2002. On the release of the album Voyage to India, which got the sixth place in the Billboard 200, Arie received a great success again. The album reached the highest sale in the market and also got the Grammy Award in the year 2003 and the Best R&B Album. Her singles Get it Together, Brown Sugar and Shark Tale were selected as the soundtracks of various movies.
