Howard Hewett was born in the city of Akron in Ohio and in 1976, the moved to go to live in Los Angeles in the year 1976. This is where he met Alonzo and John Daniels who were the owner of the LA Crenshaw‘s historical club named Maverick’s flat. This is the same place where he met for the first time Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel. Daniels brothers and Hewett made up a group that was called Beverly Hills. Through the booking of Daniels, they were able to tour Europe, Scandinavia, Asia and UK.
When the Shalamar decided to break up during the year 1980s, then Hewett went to the successful solo career. In the year 1985, before singing the solo deal with the Elektra Records, he got arrested and was taken to Miami court together with his then fiancé called Mori Molina and it was because of possessing with the intent of distributing cocaine. Molina got indicted in Tampa and in Miami. He was convicted and served the prison time.
However, after four day trial, it was said that Molina did not have anything to do with this crime and he was acquitted for all these charges. Even with all the legal battles, Hewett signed for the solo deal together with Elektra records and he was able to start his solo deal.
His first solo album was the I Commit to Love, this is a solid urban album known as Soul Man and it yielded two R&B top hit songs. The recording was produced by a Singer Steve Tyrell and after the year 1995, he released It’s time and it was released by Caliber Records of US and then Expansion Records of UK.
For her personal biography, Howard Hewett was married first to Rainey Riley Cunningham and they had two daughters together. Afterwards, he married Mari Molina in 1986 and they divorced. He was also the married to Nia Peeples who is an actress and singer and they had a son called Christopher. They appeared in the music video of Show Me song.
Afterwards, she got married to Angela Hewett and they had a daughter named Anissa. However, he divorced his wife in 2012. He is now living in Los Angeles in the city of California. As seen with her DNA analysis, his family originated from Guinea Bissau and from Limba people in Sierra Leone.
