Background
Fred’s parents have three children. The names of his other two brothers are, Ray Hammond and Dave Hammond. Fred has introduced to music in his very childhood. When he was a kid he used to go to churches and used to sing there. Gradually his interest grew and he started learning drum. Later he learned drum and piano. When he graduated from his high school, he joined US Army to serve his country. His friend named Mitchell Jones also joined with him.
Career
After the army, Fred joined a Gospel group and started his singing career. He was with the group for two years and toured all over the country. After these years when he returned to Detroit, he formed a Gospel recording group with his four friends. The group was called “Commissioned”. Next few years they roamed around and sang in order to present their songs to the fans. And their fans were increasing day by day. Their goal was to manage a considerable amount of money to record an album. It was in the year 1985 when they successfully released their first album named “I’m Going On” after that there was no stopping them.
They gave their audiences four more albums in next 4 years. They released one album each year. The names of those albums were: Go Tell Somebody, On the Winning Side, Will You be Ready? And Ordinary Just Won’t Do. Their producing company was Light Records. In the year 1990 they released their next album named State of Mind. After this, his group started to break and new members joined. The seventh album came into the market in the year 1991. The name was unique which was called ‘Number 7’. Fred himself gave us his two solo albums in the year 1991 and 1993. But the fans were missing the original members of the group and that’s why in 2002, they came together and arranged a tour which was very successful. In the meantime, Fred has already released three more albums and preparing for another. In released more solo albums in 2004, 2006 and 2009. It was in the year 2013 that he jointly released another album. The name of this one is, “United Tenors”. Among his songs, ‘no weapon’, ‘pages of life’ and ‘spirit of David’ was loved and cherished by his audience.

In his fabulous music career, Fred has contributed a lot in Gospel recording. He has become a legend in this arena. He married Kim Hammond. After being together for almost eighteen years, he and his wife got divorced. The couple has two beautiful children.
