Cory Michael Smith was born on November 14, 1986 in Columbus, Ohio. He was raised there by his parents, David and Theresa (nee Fagan) Smith. He also has a brother named Chad. Cory was interested in being a lawyer or a pianist since his teenage years. He studied at the Hilliard Darby High School and graduated in the 2005.

In the 2015 Cory was nominated with Critics' Choice Television Awards as Best Supporting Actor in a Movie/Miniseries for his work at the “Olive Kitteridge” TV series. In the 2013 he played John in the “Cock aka The Cockfight Play”. In the same year he appeared as Elder Thomas in the play, which was titled “The Whale”. His most successful work in this field was the role of Fred, who served as a narrator for “Breakfast at Tiffany's”. During this work he played alongside famous Emilia Clarke.
