Charles Edward Hugo popularly known as Chad Hugo was born on February 24th 1974, at South Hampton Roads in the city of Portsmouth, Virginia, United States of America. He was born to a Filipino duo and grew up at Virginia Beach, Chad’s father is a retired navy officer and his mother is a laboratory technician. Chad Hugo was in his grade school where he first met Pharrell Williams in the band class. The duo began working together at mixing beats and playing songs in various live events. Later on, they formed a partnership in the production of numerous hit tracks.

Chad Hugo and his partner Pharrell Williams at the beginning of their career were associated in some occasional productions for artists such as SWV and BLACKStreet. Chad and his partner’s careers turned for the better when the duo scored song writing and production assignments with artists such as N.O.R.E. and Mystikal; which became instant hits. This popularity and production success led them to produce their own distinct sound for megastars such as Jay Z amongst others. Chad Hugo then signed a global music publishing deal with the famed BMG Music Publishing house, to plunge into greater heights of success. Chad and William’s music production duo, ‘The Neptunes,’ became an instant star in the music industry.
In the year 2002, ‘The Neptunes,’ were named the Producers of the Year at both the Source Awards and the Billboard music Awards, marking a widespread recognition for their awesome and talent-filled work. The Neptunes’ talent was further highlighted when its album, ‘The Neptune Present...Clones,’ released in August 2003 made a number one debut.
Chad Hugo was described by the Source Magazine as ‘Mr. Spock,’ and Williams as, ‘Captain Kirk.’ Although, this did not go well with Chad, but Chad readily accepts the fact that Williams usually provides the beats and most of the melodies to the Neptunes production house and his role primarily is that of the, ‘One Man Band,’ and the sequencer. Also, Chad accepts the fact that their roles were quite flexible and the duo interchanged their roles as the situation demanded. Chad Hugo highlighted his ability alone away from band-mate Williams during the production of the album, ‘New Scared Cow,’ starring Kenna in the year. Chad Hugo was also involved in majority of the production work of Kenna’s second album, ‘Make Sure They See My Face.’ Later on, Kenna’s 2011 album, ‘EP land 2 Air Chronicles I- Chaos and The Darkness,’ was another display of Chad Hugo’s production talent.
In the year 2011, Chad Hugo created a DJ team named, ‘Missile Command,’ along with Daniel Biltmore. Recently Chad Hugo also has done productions of Earl Sweatshirt’s debut album, ‘Doris’ and No Malice’s debut album, ‘Feel Good.’ Chad Hugo has also formed an alternative band with Paul banks named, ‘No planes in Space.’
Chad Hugo worked with K-pop group red velvet in the year 2014 and more recently in the year 2015, Chad Hugo reunited with the N.E.R.D. band mates with whom he had been a part before.
Chad Hugo’s talent and fame draws a lot of fan following with whom he keeps touch over twitter platform. His interviews reveal that he has been married and has three children born in 1998, 2000 and 2014 respectively.
