Personal life
CCH Pounder is the daughter of Ronald Urlington Pounder and Betsy Enid James Arnella and was born on the Christmas Day in 1952. She belongs to the black ethnicity as she has her parental roots from Guiana. Her birth sign is Sagittarius and she has an American nationality. Pounder’s parents tried to instill in their daughters a passion for acting since a very young age. They sent CCH and her sister to a boarding school in England from where they learnt arts and drama. CCH moved to New York in 1970 after educating herself in Britain. She then enrolled at the Ithaca College in New York where she honed her acting skills and graduated with a degree in theater.
CCH Pounder has been married only once in her entire life. She married an anthropologist Boubacar Kone in the year 1970. Boybacar Kone is the founder of the Musee Boribana, Dakar. The couple married twice as they decided to first marry in an African traditional ceremony before remarrying in California. The couple has been blessed with three children named Nicole, Libya and Matthew. They even have six grandchildren now. CCH’s biography states that she once used to run a jewelry shop named ‘Banji girls’ alongside partner Conni Marie Brazelton but now sells her products only on special request online. Career
CCH Pounder came to be known to everybody when she turned 27 and debuted in her film ‘All that Jazz’, which got released in the year 1979. Soon after her debut film, CCH gave a series of successful fit movies like ‘Bagdad Café’, ‘I’m Dancing as Fast as I Can’, etc. This was in the early 1980s and the later half of the decade was spent by CCH focusing more on the television segment. She did several guest roles on the ‘Hill Street Blues’. Subsequently, she was seen in several famous shows such as ‘The X-Files’, ‘LA Law’, ‘Miami Vice’, ‘Quantum Leap’ and ‘Living Single’. From the years 2002-2008, CCH appeared in the drama ‘The Shield’. Her acting in ‘The Shield’ left everybody enthralled and she even got nominated for an Emmy Award and an NAACP Image Award for the same.
CCH Pounder is a multitalented person as she has also been the voice behind several video games like ‘True Crime: Streets of LA’, ‘Aladdin and the King of Thieves’, ‘Justice League Unlimited’ and ‘Gargoyles’. CCH got nominated for the Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in the series ‘The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’.
