Pentatonix (usually known as PTX) was founded in the 2011 by Kirstin Maldonado, Mitchell Grassi and Scott Hoying, who grew up together and had a passion for music. Their parents encouraged their thirst for music and the young trio rehearsed constantly. They were raised in Arlington, Texas and actually attended the same school Martin High. They made a trio version of the song "Telephone" by Lady Gaga on the local radio show at the age of 18. They become a YouTube stars and earned a lot of subscribers.


After school the members of group enrolled in different Colleges, but their common work was not closed. In the 2011 Scott Hoying, being a student of the Musical Theater major at the University of Oklahoma joined a group called SoCal VoCals and also found out about the competition on “The Sing-Off” show. He decided to take a part on this show along with his school mates. They performed a few songs and in the end, with big support of their family and fans, become a winner of the third season of the show. Scott also met Avriel Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, after that they become band mates.

In the 2012 new successful band signed a deal with Sony Pictures-owned label Madison Gate Record. Along with Ben Bram they began a long work on their first album. In the same year Pentatonix was invited to the A Cappella Palooza fundraiser in Boston city for an effort to raise funds for the Mass General Cancer Center. They got another breakthrough after their cover for the song "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye. Their first album “ PTX Volume 1” was released on June 26, 2012.

In November of the same year they also released their Christmas EP, which was titled “PTXmas”. From the beginning of the 2013 Pentatonix went on national headlining tour and soon released their second album “ PTX, Vol. II” in Ovember of the 2013. The third volume of Pentatonix appeared in stores on September 23, 2014. In the 2015 they released their same titled album. In the 2016 was released, another Christmas album “A Pentatonix Christmas”.

In addition to their music career, Pentatonix band appeared in the movie Pitch Perfect 2” with a cameo role. They also released a documentary film, which was titled “On My Way Home”. They appeared once in the popular television series from FOX channel “Bones”. The band won numerous of wards like “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella”, “Best Cover Song”, “Artist of the Year” as well as “Best YouTube Musician”.

During the time of five years of their successful career, Pentatonix got a huge level of fame and has about 13 million subscribers on YouTube. Each of their videos got hundreds of million viewers. The band has a net worth of 40 million dollars. It is available in the social sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. The band was named after the pentatonic scale.
