Mary Kay Ash

Mary Kay Ash is the name of a great American business woman. She is the founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics, INC. She was born on May 12, 1918, in Hot Wells, Harris County, Texas, USA. Ash was the daughter of Edwar Alexander and Lula Vember Hastings Wanger. She was a trained nurse. Her mother wanted her to be a nurse but, she started her job as a manager of a restaurant in Houston.


She was the first women who started the business world for women. She fought with the male-dominated society to break down the barriers and built her own business which gave her the biggest achievement. At last, she died on November 22, 2001, in Dallas, Texas, USA. When she died, her age was 83.

Ash got married at an early age. It was 17 when she got married. She married Ben Rogers in 1935. She gave birth to 3 children. Their name is Richards Rogers, Ben Rogers Jr, and Marylin Reed. Ash and Ben were not happy in their married life and got divorced in 1945.

In 1963 she selected George Hallenbeck as her life partner, and they got married in 1963. Unfortunately, she lost gorge in 1963 because of his death. Then she got married for the 3rd time with Melville J.Ash in 1966. Mary spent her maximum time with her las husband. Melville also died in 1980.

How Ash started her career?

Ash started her journey from a job. You read that she was the manager of a restaurant. She left her first job before marriage. The condition of her family was not good. After marriage when she got 3 children she realized to do a job but, it was uncommon for a married woman to work out of the house. She got a job in Stanley Home products. She did marketing for that company. She worked as a saleswoman.

By doing the job, she realized that direct sales suited her well, and she'd be able to provide the best for her children. She was in a post from 1938 to 1952 in the company. Besides the job, she started her study at the University of Houston. After completing the study, she returns for simulating the sales challenges. She worked at Stanley Hom Products 11 years after divorced. During working with Stanely, she understood all the marketing policies and founded her company in 1963.

She named her company "Beauty by Mary Kay". She started with skincare cream but, the startup business was not with her. Because of gender discrimination, she failed. To build up her career, she started to motivate women who're willing to develop their career by selling Mary Kay cosmetics. Due to the result, she created an effective female sales representatives. When her product started running, she gave an interview at CBS for 60 minutes in 1979. The business prospered after the interview.

When her business promoted by her interview, she earned $34,000 within the first month. At that time, her annual income was $800,000. The annual income reached $324millin in the 80s. Now, her company is one of the best company in this world and earning more than $2 billion per year.
