Born on June 20, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan situated in the United States of America, Leslie Gold spent most of his childhood days in Detroit. His father, as well as his grandfather, was a pawnbroker, and he went on to become one too. His first work as a salesman was at the tender age of 7 when he sold something in the shop owned by his father in Detroit. He even started his business at a very young age of 12, when he started selling pizzas to students of a school nearby. He used to buy some pizzas and sell them piece by piece to students of the Hebrew School and gain profit like that. He is an American by nationality and has white ethnicity. After the demise of his father, Gold opened his pawn shop named Merican Jewelry and Loan that is situated at the Green Eight Shopping Center in the Oak Park in the year 1978. His business was later shifted to a big building in Greenfield Road situated in Detroit and now has aver 50 people working for it. Currently, his business serves around 1000 customers every day.

His journey of becoming a reality TV star began when his pawn shop’s ad was spotted by Richard Dominick during one of the commercial breaks while watching The Jerry Springer Show in 1998. He had the idea to convert Les’s business into a reality and approached him with his idea. Though the idea was initially opposed by Les’s son, Seth Gold, but Les went on to do the show. The show started airing on truTv in 2010, and its premiere became the most-watched premiere in the channel’s history. The third season of the show saw Les Gold and Seth Gold as becoming the executive producers of the show. The show garnered a lot of attention and in the year 2013, the show crossed the # Million mark of many viewership.

He is also known to be an author and his autobiography was published by the Penguin publishers in the then year 2013. The autobiography is titled For What It’s Worth: Business Wisdom From a Pawnbroker shares his experience as a pawnbroker and information about how he opened his pawn shop. He also shared how anyone can proceed to be a pawnbroker. His book was selected as the New York Times Best Seller List and was ranked fourth in it. The book was also ranked eighth in the Hardcover Business Books category in the year 2013. Gold is also known to do charity work, and he is closely associated with the Heat and Warmth Fund. He also organised a fund-raising party to raise funds for this organisation which helps poor families pay their bills.

He married Lili Gold in the year 1975. Gold and his wife are proud parents of a son Seth Gold and daughter Ashley Gold. According to his bio, he and his wife has a very loving relationship, and there is no information about divorce.
