Born on July 13, 1969, in Detroit, Michigan, United States of America, Kendrick Kang-Joh Jeong spent most of his childhood days growing up in Greensboro situated in North Carolina. His parents were South Korean immigrants and his father D.K. Jeong used to teach at the North Carolina A&T State University. He completed his education from the Walter Hines Page High School. Before graduating from the high school, he was selected as the Greensboro’s Youth of the Year owing to the fact that he was trained in playing the violin, he was a part of the Student Council and was a part of the High IQ team as well. He then went on to attend the Duke University and completed his undergraduate degree in 1990. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an M.D. degree in the year 1995 and hence is a specialist doctor. He went to complete his internal medicine studies from the Ochsner Medical Center situated in New Orleans. Along with this, he was also practising and perfecting his stand-up comedy. Currently, Ken Jeong is a licensed practitioner with his base in California.


While he was in New Orleans, he participated in Big Easy Laff-Off competition which had judges like Brandon Tartikoff and Budd Friedman, and he went on to win this competition. All the judges advised as well as encouraged him in pursuing comedy and acting.

Upon their encouragement, Ken shifted to Los Angeles but didn’t pursue his entertainment career straight-away. He continued his medicine practice for many years and worked at the Kaiser Permanente hospital as a physician.

He made his acting debut with the television series The Big Easy in 1997 where he played the role of Dr Tang for one episode. He then did several television shows in which he had minor roles which includes Cedric the Entertainer Presents as Asian Thunder in 2003, Significant Others as the gynecologist in 2004, Two and a Half Men as the male nurse in 2005, The Shield as Skip Osaka in 2007, ‘Til Death as Dr. Park in 2008, American Gladiator as Chuck Norris in 2009, Wheel of Fortune as Dr. Ken in 2016 and Fresh Off the Boat as Gene in 2016. His most popular role until now has been in the hit sitcom Community where he played the role of Ben Chang from 2009 to 2015. He is currently working on the show Dr Ken where he portrays the role of Dr Ken. This television show started in the year 2015 and for this show, he turned to a writer, creator and executive producer as well.

He made his movie debut in the movie Knocked Up where he played the role of Dr Kuni in the year 2007. He is popular for playing the role of Leslie Chow in the Hangover Trilogy. He has also done several movies in his career.

He is married to Tran Ho, who is a family physician. Ken and his wife are proud parents of two children who are twins and were born in 2008. There is no rumour of any conflict between them or about any divorce. According to his biography, his net worth is around $14, Million and has an average height of 1.66m
