Kellita Smith was born on January 15, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois, U.S and raised in Oakland. As for her family, Kellita Smith is a daughter of Honey Smith. Her father was a military man who served in Vietnam when she was just a baby. What is more, the actress has two siblings.

In 2001 she appeared in the Fox sitcom The Bernie Mac Show created by Larry Wilmore. Kellita Smith played Wanda "Baby" McCullough, Bernie's loving wife, a very intelligent woman who is VP for AT&T. She loves raising the kids with Bernie, but periodically her patience is tested. Whenever Bernie has a problem, she does her best to help, though her assistance can be stubbornly overbearing and unnecessary at times. She plays a minor but important role in the series finale. The series aired on Fox for five seasons from 2001 to 2006. She was nominated four times for a NAACP Image Award for her role there.

The actress was nominated for NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for the role of First Lady Katherine Johnson in an American sitcom The First Family that debuted in first-run syndication in the United States in 2012. She appeared in 36 episodes of the TV show. Moreover, since 2014 she has been playing main role of Lieutenant Roberta Warren in action television series Z Nation that airs on Syfy.
