Kyla Pratt was born on September 16, 1986 in Los Angeles, California, USA to Kecia Pratt-McCullar, a schoolteacher, and Johnny McCullar, a semi-professional basketball player. Kyla is the oldest of five children. As for her early acting career and biography she began acting at the age of eight, appearing in commercials for an interactive computer game and Nike. Pratt attended the prestigious Hamilton Academy of Music, in Los Angeles, California.

In 1997, she appeared in an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger entitled "The Neighborhood" where she portrayed Kyla Jarvis, a 10-year-old girl who miraculously recovers after accidentally being shot in a drive-by shooting in her gang ridden Neighborhood and reveals that she saw heaven where she met a guardian angel who gives her an important mission from God. With Walker's help Kyla Jarvis spreads the angel message of faith and love, uniting her local community into helping clean up their Neighborhood and end the gang violence plaguing it. She appeared in an episode of Friends, followed by roles in Smart Guy, Sister, Sister, Family Matters, Lizzie McGuire, Moesha, and The Parkers.

In 2001, Kyla Pratt got the leading role of Breanna Barnes in 113 episodes of an American sitcom that aired on UPN One on One. During the run of One on One, Pratt also voiced Penny Proud, the lead character in the Disney Channel animated series The Proud Family. Her character in the show is Penny Proud, the main protagonist of the series, a 14-year-old girl living in fictional Wizville, CA who is usually embarrassed by her father, Oscar. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, even though they have gotten her into trouble, and left her to face danger by herself many times.

She also voiced the character for The Proud Family Movie in 2005. In addition to television roles, Pratt has also appeared in several feature films including Love & Basketball and Fat Albert. She gained real success playing Maya Dolittle in Dr. Dolittle and Dr. Dolittle 2 alongside with such star as Eddie Murphy. She reprised her role as Maya Dolittle in the remake series of the franchise as the lead character in Dr. Dolittle 3, Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief and Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts.

As a member of the Disney Channel Circle of Stars, Pratt performed a cover version of "Circle of Life" that appeared on the DisneyMania 2 album. Being a successful actress and singer, Kyla Pratt has an estimated net worth of $2.5 million.

Talking about her family life, she has been in two serious relationships prior to getting married with her current partner. In 2005, Kyla Pratt married Danny "KP" Kilpatrick, a songwriter, hip-hop artist and tattoo artist. Kyla and Danny both got engaged in 2011 after him being her boyfriend and current husband for 5 years. The couple has been stuck with each other ever since. Kyla and Danny have two beautiful children. Pratt gave birth to Lyric Kai Kirkpatrick on November 17, 2010. Another daughter, Liyah Kirkpatrick, was born on August 5, 2013.
