George Strait

George Strait, born George Harvey Strait Sr. on 18th May 1952, has been a U.S. music singer of countryside music. He has also been ref toerred as “King of Country” by his followers. He is not only a singer but also a music producer and actor. George has been particularly known for his own style of ballads, music of honky-tonk style, and western music. However, he has been basically the exponent of countryside music of traditional style. George was fascinated with the rock and roll style of music from his very childhood. He has been influenced by such musician and singers as Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzel, George Jones, and Merle Haggard.


Personal Life

George took birth in Poteet, Texas, but spent his early life in Pearsall in Frio County. He was born to father John Byron Strait Sr. and mother Doris Jean Couser. Both his father and mother have passed away. His father had been a mathematics teacher of a high school at Pearsall, and also owned a cattle ranch measuring 2000 acres near Big Wells in Texas. His father and mother divorced each other when George was still studying in grade 4th. His mother parted ways and took George’s sister with her. George and his elder brother stayed with their father.

Strait studied at Pearsall High School and was associated with the garage band of rock and roll. However, he soon got interested in country music which he witnessed live being performed regularly in Texas. He joined the army in the year 1971 from where he was discharged honorably. After leaving the army, he joined the Southwest Texas State University and obtained a degree in 'agriculture'.

While studying at the high school, George fell in love with a fellow student and girl named Norma. He eloped with Norma, and married her on 4th December 1971 in Mexico. He joined the U.S Army in the same year. George started performing for a band called “Rambling Country” sponsored by the U.S Army. George and Norma have been blessed with a child named Jenifer on 6th October 1972.

Career

George started his music interest even while studying in school. During his college days, he came to be associated with a band called “Stoney Ridge” as its lead vocalist. He soon was entrusted to lead the band the name of which was changed as “Ace in the Hole”. George initially struggled a lot before being drafted as a solo singer for MCA Records in 1981. His first single entitled “Unwound” gained immense popularity, and was included in his first album entitled “Strait Country”.

George also tried his luck in acting, and acted in his first film entitled “Pure Country”. The film was a flop, but the songs he sang were very popular. Strait has several albums to his credit, and some of them are “Easy Come, Easy Go”, “Blue Clear Sky” “Carrying Your Love With Me”, and “One Step At a Time”. George has been a force to reckon with so far as country music is concerned. He has won many accolades and awards during his career. As per his biography, his net worth is estimated at $300 million.
