Fred Couples is known as an American professional golf player. He is most famous for winning 58 professional golf tournaments. He currently competes on the PGA Tour.


Background

Fred Couples was born on October 3, 1959 in the state of Washington. His parents are of white ethnicity and are American citizens. His father's name is Tom Couples and his mother’s name is Violet Couples. He was very interested in sports since he was young but he was a good student as well. He always got good grades in his schooling days. His grandparents are from Italy so he has Italian ancestry in his blood but since his grandfather’s arrival, his family has been living in the United States. His father worked at a park area where golf was played. This is how Fred started getting into the game as he used to go to that park with his father.

He went to O'Dea High School and played different sports there. He has always been a very talented person since his childhood and he had the perfect balance of intelligence and sportsmanship.

Career

As Fred grew up, he soon started to play for the amateur golf tournaments and won many of them. He started playing for the PGA tour in 1977 but couldn't win it. It was in 1983 that he was finally able to win the tournament. He is the Member of the World Golf Hall of Fame which is a prestigious list of the best golf players on the planet.

He won the PGA Player of the Year in 1992 and he won the PGA Tour Player of the Year 1991 and 1992 which shows his incredible form and talent. He has also won the Vardon Trophy in the year 1991 and 1992. The following year he won the PGA Tour money leader in 1992. He has been named as a Member of U.S. Ryder Cup team in the years 1989, 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1997. In addition to that he, has also been named in the Member, U.S. Presidents Cup team in the years 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2005.

He was made the Captain, of the U.S. Presidents Cup team in 2009. All these feats and awards speaks volume of his talent and his ability. He has been regularly labeled as the best golfer in the world along with Tiger Woods. In 2006, due to back injury treatment he was out of the game for few months but completed an amazing comeback a year later winning the US open.

Personal Life

In his personal life, Fred was once a happily married man. He married his longtime girlfriend in 1992 but due to some problems they had to get a divorce. He didn't have any children with his first wife. After the divorce, she committed suicide.

Later Couples married Thais Baker in 2009. His second wife died due to breast cancer. They didn't have any children either. After the death of his wife, Couples started having heath issues but he is doing fine now.
