Damian Lewis

In keeping with the rich traditions of English history, Damian Lewis is another famous and successful actor and producer. He was born on February 11, 1971 and in his four decades plus career, he has been able to script a role for himself which is quite impressive and worth emulating. His role as U. S. Army Major Richard Winters in the Band Of Brothers still continues to impress many thousands of his fans. His role in this HBO miniseries earned him the Golden Globe Nomination. He also has quite a few other memorable roles under his belt and he certainly can be counted as one of the better known actors of England.


He is the elder son of John Watcyn Lewis and Charlotte Mary. His father was a City insurance broker with Lloyd’s. He spent his young days in English boarding schools and therefore he had the best of upbringing and education. His childhood saw him visiting USA quite a few times with his parents. His zeal and passion for acting made him to decide that he will become an actor at the young age of 16. He did his graduation from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1993 and he also had a stint as a stage actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He is married to Helen McCrory and the wedding took place on July 4, 2007. They still continue to be married and have a daughter and a son by the names Manon and Gulliver. He and his family spent around two years in Los Angeles, USA where he took part in an NBC crime serial by the name Life. They returned to England in 2009 and have ever since been living in North London.

Career

His first tryst with acting happened in the small screen way back in 1993 with the title Micky Love. Since then he has been associated with TV plays for almost 23 years now has acted in 19 different titles. He also has been nominated under various categories for Emmy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and much more.

As far as filmography is concerned, he made his debut in the year 1997 with Robinson Crusoe where he did the role of Patrick. Since then he has acted in nineteen films and one movie by the name Ocean’s Eight is still in post-production stage. He also has acted in some famous movies like Romeo & Juliet, The Baker and a number of other titles where his performances have been exemplary. He also was nominated for Gotham Award for the Best Breakthrough Performance for his role as William Keane in the movie Keane. It would be pertinent to mention here that during his entire big and small screen history, he has won an over all of 5 awards and has won 13 nominations.
