Audrey Justine Tautou was born on August 9, 1976 in Beaumont. She has grown up in Montlucon. Her parents are Eveline and Bernard Tautou. Her mother is a teacher, while her father is a dental surgeon. After school, she continued her education at the Institut Catholique de Paris. She has been interested in acting since her early years. She appeared on television, when she was 18 years old.

Her professional acting career started in the 1998, when she participated at the The Young Debuts competition on the Canal+ station. In the same year she also was honored with the title of the Best Young Actress at the ninth Béziers Festival of Young Actors.
