Alan van Sprang was born on June 19, 1971 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He was raised in Calgary alongside his two younger sisters. His father Emile Van Sprang was a rock musician, who played in 1960's rock band “Stampeders” along with Alan's uncle Ronnie King. Alan attended Mount Royal College Conservatory of Music and Speech Arts located in Alberta, Canada.


He started his acting career in 1995 by playing the role of Marshall Cameron in the movie “Dangerous Intentions”. The year before, he tried himself in the secondary role in TV series “Robin's Hoods”. In the 1995 he also appeared in “Black Fox: Good Men and Bad” as Dunn Gang. During the period of 1996-1997 he takes a part in movies like “Closer and Closer”, “Conundrum”, “Carpool” and “Masterminds”. He also was involved in television series such as “Viper”, “Made in Canada”, “Highlander: The Raven”, “The City”, “Power Play”and “PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal” where he appeared as Griffin. He also appeared in television series “Soul Food” as Dr. Caldwell during 2001-2002. In the 2003-2007 he played Macduff/Cassio in the series “A Taste of Shakespeare”.

Another great job by appearing in the film of 2005 “Land of the Dead”, directed by George A. Romero, gives to him new roles in other projects. He also appeared in the whole cycle of films including Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead in the 2008 and 2009. Alan gained notoriety for his role of Sir Francis Bryan in the popular TV series "The Tudors". He was involved in this project with the main role of third season and in general played in 8 episodes of the show. Another main role comes to Alan with 11 episodes of the “The Best Years”.

During the work in the movie “Immortals” in the 2011, where he was portrayed a Greek slave Dareios, he had to undergo a three-week "hardcore boot camp" that included a daily regimen of dieting, cardio workouts, yoga, fight training and gym and weight training. He is playing the role of King Henry II on The CW's original popular TV series “Reign” from the 2013. Alan appeared with the main role in other TV series like “Paradise Falls”, “Earth: Final Conflict” and “11 Cameras”. Being the unique and talented actor he shaved his head because he wanted to play in a dangerous, bad guy role. He was played a role of Agent Bob Hall in TV series “Beauty and the Beast” in the 2015 along with Kristin Kreuk. In 2016 he portrayed Valentine Morgenstern in the television series “Shadow hunters”.

Alan is married, but he likes to keep his private life to herself so there is no information about his wife and quite a little about his children. He has a son whose name is Logan Joseph Van Sprang. His successful career has given him great earnings. He has a net worth over 1 million dollars, which proves his popularity on screen.
