Jonathan Rhys Meyers was born in the year 1977 on July 27th. He was born in Ireland, in Dublin. He was born to his parents O’Keeffe and Geraldine. His father was a folk musician and he developed an interest towards music from his father.
Later, he had to spent most of his time in the city, Cork for his father’s professional purposes. He has received a Roman Catholic upbringing as a child. He grew up with his three brothers. His father used to give music lessons to his four sons regularly. He wanted to make his sons musicians in the future but Jonathan had more interest towards drama than music. Though he was very good in music, he had a different kind of passion for theatre drama. He went to the North Monastery Christian Brothers School.
He was an active member in the drama club of his school. He participated in every school function and has also secured a number of trophies for his school through his talent. However, something tragic happened to him when he was only fourteen years old. He was dropped out of the school leading to some kind of truancy. After that, he did not carry on with his studies after that and concentrated in acting completely.
He went to pool halls daily which was a socialising point in the city. As he had an Irish nationality, he was chosen as a cast in the War of the Buttons. He gave the audition at the Victoria Sporting Club. As he did not take any professional acting training till then, the crew of War of the Buttons urged him to pursue after seeing his versatile talent in acting. After taking a training for a short period of time, he appeared in the film A Man of No Importance in the year 1994.
In the year 1996, he appeared as an ambusher in the film Michael Collins. He was offered a role of psychopathic guerrilla fighter in the next year. He took a time of two years to appear in the film Ride with the Devil where he played the character of Pitt Mackeson. After the huge success of the film, he appeared in the television series.
In the year 2000, he was starred in the television series Gormenghast. Next, in the year 2005, he did a mini series, Elvis on the CBS channel. He played the role of Elvis Presley with his co-stars Randy Quaid. After achieving huge fame from this television series, he made an appearance in the CBC television show, The Tudors. He was in a long time relationship with Reena Hammer from the year 2004 till the year 2012. The couple broke up leading to some kind of controversies. In the year 2016, he got married to Mara Lane. The couple also have a son together known as Wolf Rhys Meyers.
