Vijay Singh was born on February 22, 1963 in Lautoka, Viti Levu, Colonial Fiji. He was raised in Nadi. Vijay has been interested in golf since he was a kid. His father Mohan Singh, was a golf lover too, he worked as an airplane technician. As he said in an interview, that he played with coconuts instead of real golf balls and his father used to say “golf balls don't fall off trees”. During his teenage years he also played snooker, cricket, football.


He started professional golf at the age of 19 in the 1982. Two years later during the participation of the Malaysian PGA Champions he became a winner. In the 1985 he was suspended from the Asian Tour, when he doctored his scorecard. Afterwards, he joined Keningau Club in Sabah, Malaysia. Later he moved to Miri Golf Club in Sarawak. Thanks to Red Baron, who was his sponsor, Vijay teamed up with a trip to Africa for a Safari Tour in the 1988.

He has made his debut in the Nigerian Open. Later he enrolled at the European Tour Qualifying school and got his success time. In the 1989 he participated in the European Tour at the Volvo Open Championship in Italy and even reached his first title. During that year he won four times, include Ivory Coast Open, Nigerian Open and Zimbabwe Open golf event. The next year he got another win as well as in the 1992. During the early 90s, he became a winner at the several tournaments in Asia and Africa.

Since 1993 he has played on the PGA Tour and even won his very first tour event in a playoff against Mark Wiebe. In the same year he was honored with a title of the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. In the 1994 he had some problems with his back and neck. He returned to professional golf the next year by appearing at the Phoenix Open. In the 1997 he got another breakthrough time with a two victories at the Memorial Tournament and the Buick Open.

The 2000 was pretty successful for him and Vijay Singh won The Masters Championship. In the 2004 he reached almost 950 thousand dollar prize by participating at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. In the same year he also got his big victory in the major final of the PGA Championship. In the 2005 he was honored by election to the World Golf Hall of Fame. Previously, he won the Mercedes-Benz Championship. In the 2008 he won the FedEx Cup.

He is a married man. In the 1985 he tied his married knot with Ardena Seth. The couple has one son, named Qass Seth. He has a net worth of 75 million dollars. After Tiger Woods, he became the second man who reached $60 million in PGA Tour. He is of Fijian nationality, but currently he resides with his wife in his own residence in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
