Sean Patrick Astin, who was born as Sean Patrick Duke step into the world of the mother, Patty Duke on 25 February 1971. Patty Duke, an iconic Oscar-winning actress of Irish and a distant German ancestry, gave birth to Sean in Santa Monica, California. Astin's brother, Mackenzie Astin also an established actor was born on 1973.


Sean and uncertainty about his biological father have been a dramatic one with credits to a colourful romantic history of Patty Duke. Patty was the girlfriend of 17-year-old Desi Arnaz Jr. until she married a completely stranger Michael Tell. Michael was a publisher of the newspaper The Las Vegas Israelite and a writer.

However, Sean was raised as the son of actor John Astin, of the TV series Fame The Addams Family, as Patty Duke married him on August 5, 1972. She had a relationship with him for two years. John Astin adopted Sean and Sean adopted his surname. Sean was unaware about the truth behind his adoption until he grew up. John and Duke got a divorce in 1985.

Patty was unsure of Sean’s Paternity. His paternity was a debate till 1994 after he was told that Desi Arnaz was his biological father. He started bonding with Arnaz. But in 2001 a DNA report revealed that Sean’s biological dad was Michael Tell.

Patty Duke also married Mike Pearce in the year 1986. The couple in 1989 adopted a son, Kevin. Astin is also close to his stepfather Mike.

Sean, in fact, believes that he is lucky as his four dads are anytime available for him.

Apart from the whole confusion regarding his paternity, Sean also faced a raged and depressed mother as Patty was diagnosed with manic depression. Patty is no longer in the world.

Sean studied earlier at Crossroads High School for the Arts. Sean was then sent to complete his Masters from Stella Adler Conservatory in L.A. He completed his graduation in B.A. honours from the University UCLA.

Sean got the title of an Ironman while he competed for the title at the Ironman World Championship Triathlon. The championship was held in Kona, HI on 11 October 2015.

Sean’s first encounter with the screen was at the age of 9 in the year 1981 with his mother in the after-school special Please Don't Hit Me, Mom. His official debut came in the year 1985 with The Goonies. He then gave his contribution in movies like Toy Soldiers and Where the Day Takes You, both in 1991 and Rudy (1993) and Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron in 1995.

The year 2001, 2002, 2003 was a career breakthrough for Sean with his role in a trilogy of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings, which made him won many awards and nominations. In 2004, he then acted in the comedy 50 First Dates.

He also received the honour of Seattle Film Critics and the Las Vegas Film Critics Society for his role portrayal in Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Astin starred in many TV shows like 24, Angel; My Name is Earl, Monk, Adopting Terror, The Strain and many others.
