Sam Champion

Sam Champion was born as Samuel James Champion on August 13, 1961. Sam Champion was born to Sylvia and James H. Champion in Paducah, Kentucky, United States of America. Sam Champion has another sibling, a sister named Teresa. Sam Champion’s father was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States’ Marine Corps. He graduated from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, America and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast news from Eastern Kentucky University. He also did an internship at WKYT TV in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.


Sam Champion is a weather anchor and a television host. In his early years of his career, Champion worked at WPSD TV in Paducah and later joined WJKS (renamed WCWJ) in Jacksonville.  IN the year 1988, he joined WABC TV’s Eyewitness News. This development came as a turning point in his career.  His popularity became large and did spread far and wide. The year 2012 saw a new milestone being achieved in his career when he joined Good Morning America, at a whopping salary of $ 1.5 million per year. GMA also announced that Sam would host the show, ‘Sea Rescue,’ in Litton’s Weekend Adventure and would also be associated with ABC News on-air weather forecasts. He debuted as a host in the show on April 7, 2012. On September 5, 2006, Sam Champion joined ABC News and worked with GMA and ABC till December, 2013.

 Thereon, Sam moved on to join, The Weather Channel, as an on-air presenter and managing editor. He hosted his very own morning show, ‘America’s Morning Headquarters.’ It was first aired on March 17, 2014. Later on, in September 2015, he left the show to serve as a contributor to its prime time programs.

Champion is a true gentleman and has been associated with a number of charitable organisations in New York. He was associated with ‘Multiple Sclerosis Society Fall Bike Tour’ as the Grand Marshal. He was also the chairman at the 25th annual ‘March of Dimes New York City Walk America.’ He was also the master of ceremonies of ‘Stopping AIDS Together,’ as part of Sunday by the Bay programme. He also hosted in 2002 New York City Project’s, ‘Courage Awards’ with Frank DeCaro.

 Sam Champion had a brief scare when he was detected with, ‘Basal Cell Carcinoma,’ a type of skin cancer. He suffered several traumatic bouts of the disease. It was treated and later removed from his skin in May 2010. The disease had a grave impact upon Champion and later he took active part in raising awareness about the deadly disease at programmes organised during the Cancer Awareness Month.

Sam Champion got engaged to his long term partner, Rubem Robierb, on October 5, 2012. The couple solemnised their wedding on December 21, 2012.
