Golden Globe Award-winning Sally Cecilia Hawkins (April 27, 1976), is an English actress best known for her prominent roles in movies such as All or Nothing, Vera Drake and Happy-Go-Lucky. She comes from a creative family. Her parents, Jacqui Hawkins and Colin Hawkins are renowned authors of more than 150 children books. Her brother, Finbar Hawkins, is a famous film producer. Sally wanted to become an actress since she was 3.

Early Life and Education

Sally Hawkins was born as Sally Cecilia Hawkins on April 27, 1976, in Dulwich borough, London to Jacqui Hawkins and Colin Hawkins. Both her parents belong to Irish Catholic descent and are famous authors and illustrators of more than 150 children books. Sally grew up in Blackheath borough, London along with her older brother, Finbar Hawkins.

Sally used to be an introvert and anxious child. This anxiety increased as the kids of her age didn’t want to be friend with her. They insulted her every now and then since she was a little slow and took time to learn new things. She also had dyslexia due to which she faced difficulty in reading. However, with the help of her parents, she is now dyslexia free so much so that she can memorize a film script in just one day.

In terms of education, Sally went to James Allen’s Girls’ School in Dulwich borough, London. She wanted to be an actress, hence she attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated in the year 1998.

Career

Sally Hawkins started her career with theater plays such as Misconceptions, Romeo and Juliet, The Cherry Orchard, Accidental Death of an Anarchist and A midsummer Night’s Dreamand.

Later she appeared in movies such as Star Wars: Episode I- The Phantom Menace, All or Nothing, Vera Drake, Layer Cake, Hollo China, Happy-go-lucky, An education, Desert flowers, Happy Ever Afters, It’s a wonderful afterlife, Submarine, Love birds, The phone call, Great expectations, Godzilla, Paddington, The shape of water, and Paddington 2. Her upcoming movies are Godzilla: King of the monsters and The Eternal beauty.

She has also appeared in many TV shows such as Casualty, Doctors, Little Britain, Promoted to glory, The young visitors, Byron, Persuasion, The Everglades, Little crackers, Room on the Broom, How and why, Stick man and The Hollow Crown.

She has won many awards for her amazing and power packed performances including the prestigious “Golden Globe Award”
