Though Joseph Simmons is his real name, many know him by his multiple stage names Dj Run or Run. He serves as a minister which has given him the stage name, Rev. Run derived from Revered Run. His undying popularity came about through his famous family show dubbed “The run” on MTV in 2005 together with the fact that he is a co-founder of Run-D.M.C; a group of hip-hop artists.


Joseph Simmons first married in 1983 to Valerie Vaughn with whom he has three children named Venessa Simmons, Joseph Jojo Ward Simmons Jr, and Angela Simmons. However, the marriage did not last as the divorce took place in 1992 following claims of infidelity on the part of Simmons.

Later, in 1993, he married Justine Jones and added three more children to his name; Daniel Simmons was also known as Diggy, Rushell Simmons and Victoria Simmons. However, Little Victoria died shortly after birth due to a co genital defect an issue that was well documented by the media. Her death saw the Run's adopt a girl by the name of Miley Justine Simmons. Currently, the family home resident is a six- bedroomed house in Sandle River, New Jersey worth approximately 5.5 million dollars. 

In 2008, along with his wife, Simmons was involved in a charitable organization in association with Cool Aid known as Kaboom whose aim was to construct playgrounds for the underprivileged communities as well as raising awareness on safety of playgrounds. At the pick of his career, Simmons produced more series and the Runs Renovations which are aired at the Dy Network as well as a Run’s cooking show for the cooking channel. In 2017, Simmons announced that God had guided him to become a vegetarian something that he said he was keen on following.

Career

According to his biography, Joseph Simmons started his career as a lead vocalist at “The force” which was a band of hip pop before co-founding the Run-D.M.C together with his two friends Darryl McDaniel’s and DJ Jason Mizell who is now deceased. Thereafter as mentioned earlier he became a minister at the Pentecostal ministries earning the title Reverend and consequently being named for an award known as the Protégé in 2004.

Joseph Simmons initial duties in the mistrial world saw him successfully feature in a single hit by the UK pop in 2005, a hit that scaled to number 2 and 4 in the UK box and MTV chart places respectively. In 2005 to 2009, together with his family, Joseph featured in a TV series “ Runs house on the MTV which mostly touched on their day-to-day life as a family. At the same time in 2007, BMW awarded Joseph Simmons as their Icon.
