Monica Calhoun

Monica Calhoun (full name Lorine Monica P. Calhoun) was born on July 29, 1971 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother is Lorine W. Calhoun. Her family moved to Los Angeles, California, when she was a child. She attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and graduated in the 1989.


She started her professional acting career at the end of the 80s. In the 1987 she appeared in the Bagdad Cafe” with a role of Phyllis. In the 1993 she played in several films like “Jack the Bear”, “Younger and Younger” and “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit”. In the 1997 she was involved with a short film “Damn Whitey”. The next year she played Ebony in “The Players Club”. She also portrayed Tamala Davis character from “Park Day”.

In the 1999 she appeared as Mia Morgan in the romantic comedy-drama film “The Best Man”. According to Imdb web site, she also played in such moves like “Love & Basketball”, “Civil Brand” and “Trois 2: Pandora's Box”.

In the 2003 she played in both “Love Chronicles” and “Gang of Roses”. In the 2005 she played Brenda in the movie “The Salon”. In the 2013 she appeared in the role of Mia M. Sullivan in the movie “The Best Man Holiday”. Accept her work as a movie actress, she also appeared a lot in different TV shows. Being just 14, she played in the TV film “Children of the Night”. In the 1989 she appeared in the episode of “CBS Schoolbreak Special”. During the early 90s she has made her appearances in several television films like “She Stood Alone”, “The Jacksons: An American Dream” and “The Ernest Green Story”.

In the 1993 she portrayed Yolanda from “A Different World”. In the same year she played Kaiya in the TV series “Where I Live”. In the next year she was a guest on the TV series “Sweet Justice”. She appeared again in the “CBS Schoolbreak Special” as Temple Baham in the 1995. At the end of the 90s, she played in numerous TV films like “Rebound: The Legend of Earl "The Goat" Manigault”, “The Ditchdigger's Daughters” and “Intimate Betrayal”.

During the last years she appeared with the episodic roles in such popular television series like “NYPD Blue”, “Grey's Anatomy”, “Dirt” and “Everybody Hates Chris”. During 2009-2011 she played the lead role of Ocean in the TV series “Diary of a Single Mom”. Recently she appeared as Patricia Tresvant in the TV series “The New Edition Story”.

It seems like she is not married now. There is no any information about her husband. She has one child, a son who has special needs. She often refused good roles because of her son's illness. Despite the fact that she is a good actress, it is often difficult for her to combine the duties of mother and celebrity. There are no more children.
