Marc Maron is a popular American standup comedian. He is quite famous for his show Maron, which is aired on IFC. Previously, he has hosted shows like The Marc Maron Show, Morning Sedition, and Breakroom Live. He has been active as a presenter on Comedy Central as well. Also, he holds the record of being on Conan O’Brien’s show for more times than any other standup comedian. He has also appeared on numerous episode of the David Letterman show.

Early Life and Beginning of Career

Maron was born on September 27, 1963, in Jersey City. His father was a surgeon while his mother was a real estate broker. His father then got recruited in the Air Force and hence he had to move around a lot with his family. After his father leaving the Air Force, he moved on to live in Albuquerque, where Maron completed the most of his education. He completed his B.A. in English Literature from Boston University in 1986.

Maron’s career began with standup comedy acts. He was barely 24 when he performed at Los Angeles’ The Comedy Store. Later, he moved on to New York and continued performing his acts there. He also performed at the Boston Comedy Club. In 1995, he had a failed audition for Saturday Night Live.

His early television performances as a comedian wee on Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. He also worked on Comedy Central Presents, Short Attention Span Theater, and Eating It. He has also appeared in a bit role in the movie Almost Famous. His first big hit show was Jerusalem Syndrome.

Recent Work

Lately, Maron has appeared in a few episodes of Metalocalypse and Louie. His show Maron started airing on IFC since May 2013. It has tidbits of his own life played out in a show format. He has also appeared on the show Harvey Beaks as the voice of the character Randl.

Another thing he has been into lately is podcasting. His podcast WTF with Marc Maron, which is mostly in the interview format, has won numerous awards including the Best Comedy Podcast at the Comedy Central Comedy Awards. His episode with Louis C.K. was deemed to be the best comedy podcast of all time by Slate.

Personal Life

Maron is a cat lover. He houses stray cats at his house, which he sometimes refers to as the Cat Ranch. He has been an alcoholic and substance abuser previously, but claims that he has given it up since 1999.

Maron has had two marriages. He was first married to Kimberly Reiss, which ended in a divorce. His second wife was Mishna Wolff, a fellow comedian. Currently he is believed to be dating numerous women, including Moon Zappa and Sarah Cain. He is quite open about his relationships and speaks about them often on Twitter and on his podcasts.
