Ben Barnes (full name Benjamin Thomas Barnes) was born on August 20, 1981 in London. His parents are Tricia and Thomas Barnes. They both are doctors, his mother is a relationship therapist, while his father is a professor of psychiatry. He is of mixing descent, his mother is a Jewish but originally she is from South Africa.


He was raised in London alongside with his younger brother named Jack. Ben attended two private schools for boys Homefield Preparatory School in Sutton, Surrey as well as at the King's College School in Wimbledon, London. Afterwards, he enrolled in the Kingston University, where he chose to study drama and English literature and graduated in the 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

He started his acting career by working in theatre. His first years on stage was at the National Youth Music Theatre. When he was just 15 years old, he got a position of drummer for the West End musical adaptation of Bugsy Malone. Additionally, he also was a singer and was involved as vocalist for the pop music band “Hyrise”. Since 2006 he has started his television work.

One of his first TV appearances was a guest role for the TV series “Doctors”. In the 2006 he joined the cast of “The History Boys”, where he played the role of Dakin. In the 2007 he played the role of Young Dunstan in the fantasy movie “Stardust”, which was directed by Matthew Vaughn and based on the same titled novel by Neil Gaiman.

In the same year he also appeared in the movie “Bigga Than Ben” as Cobakka. The next year he played Prince Caspian X in the popular fantasy movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”. Another his role, which brought him success was the John Whittaker character from “Easy Virtue”. In the 2009 he played Dorian Gray from the same titled movie and novel. The next year he appeared as Josh Sawyer from “Locked In”.

In the 2010 he comes back with the role of King Caspian X from “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. He also played Neil McCormick from the movie “Killing Bono”. Since then he has made his appearances in numerous movies and tv shows like “The Words”, “The Big Wedding”, “By the Gun” and “Sons of Liberty”. In the 2014 he appeared in both “By the Gun” and “Seventh Son”. He also played in several TV series like “S Club TV”, “Westworld” and “The Punisher”. He is mostly known in London as a theatre actor thanks to his appearances in such plays like “Sex, Chips & Rock N Roll”, “Talking To Mr. Warner” and “Birdsong”.
