Armand Assante is an American actor who is famous for enacting in movies like ‘Private Benjamin’ and ‘Gotti’. He has won the 1996 Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a movie as well.


Personal life

Armand Assante was born on 4th October, 1949 in New York City, U.S.A. An American by nationality, he belongs to the white ethnicity. He was raised in Cornwall, New York by parents Armand Anthony Assante Sr. and Katherine Assante.

While his father is a professional painter and artist, his mother is a poet and a music teacher at school. His father is an Italian-American while his mother is an Irish-American. He was brought up from a Roman Catholic Family. Armand graduated from Cornwall Centre High School and later enrolled himself at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts from where he learned about his dramatic roles.

Armand Assante is married to Karen McArn. The couple got married in 1982 and have two children named Alesandra and Anya. Alesandra, 29, is an actress, singer, producer and composer who attended Hunter College in Manhattan. Anya, 34, is a Director of Marketing who has worked with various brands such as ‘Theory’, ‘Louis Vuitton’, ‘David Yurman’ and ‘Christies’.

The couple divorced in 1994 and there has been no sign of Armand dating anyone after that. Armand’s outdoor passion has led him to raise German shepherds, horses, bulls and trees. Career

Armand Assante was quite regular on a couple of soap operas named ‘The Doctors’ and ‘How to Survive a Marriage’ during the 70s. His debut film was ‘The Lords of Flatbush’ which was released in 1974. His first ever on-screen role was in ‘Paradise Alley’ in which he played the brother of Sylvester Stallone. He then rose to prominence when he enacted in ‘Private Benjamin’ as a handsome Frenchman. Armand has the reputation of the typical tough guy among the directors. He has starred in various movies as a gangster or a villain.

Armand Assante has been an active member of the Hollywood film industry for over four decades. He has starred in plenty of films during all this time and has won several awards as well. He appeared in an American soap opera named ‘How to Survive a Marriage’ in 1974 wherein he portrayed Johnny McGee. He starred in various movies like ‘The Pirate’, ‘Prophecy’, ‘I’, ‘the Jury’ and ‘Paradise Alley’ in the early 80s.

In 1988, he portrayed Richard Mansfield in ‘Jack the Ripper’ for which he got nominated for the Golden Globe Award and Primetime Emmy Award.
