Five times golden Globe award winner Ann Margaret is a very famous multifaceted actress, dancer and singer. She is of Swedish origin and was touted as one of the most famed sex symbols during the 1960s. In her career spanning four decades, she has appeared in several blockbuster movies, award winning TV shows and also performed several hit singles as a musician.


PERSONAL LIFE:

Ann Margaret was born on April 28th, 1941 to Carl Gustav Olsson and Anne Regina in Valsjobyn, Sweden. Her father moved to the US to pursue his career as an electrician and he was soon joined by his wife and daughter. The family stayed in Wilmette and the famed actress became a US citizen by 1949. Ann joined the Marjorie Young School of Dance where she showed a promise as a dancer.

She was lauded for being able to mimic all the dance steps. She attended the New Trier High School and later enrolled at the Northwestern University. Throughout her school and college she actively participated in theatre. The young actress however did not graduate from the University as she wanted to pursue a full-fledged career in the silver screen. Ann was a part of the group called Suttletones as a part of which she performed at various nightclubs.

During one such performance, she was spotted by George Burns who later signed a music deal with her. After a successful stint in music, she also transitioned to acting. After her screen test with 20th Century Fox, she clinched a seven year deal with production giant. Ann Margaret was married to Roger Smith, a fellow actor. The couple were married until Roger’s death in 2017.

The talented actress has no biological children but has three stepchildren from her husband’s previous marriage. Before her marriage, ann was also romantically linked with Elvis Presley. The actress is a passionate motorcyclist. She even featured in the advertisement of Triumph Motorcycles.

CAREER:

Ann debuted as a musician with the single Lost Love from her album And Here She Is: Ann Margaret under RCA Victor. Her voice and singing style were compared to the iconic Elvis Presley. She later performed with Elvis for their movie Viva Las Vegas. Several of her singles became smashing hits on the Billboards. After this, she ventured into acting and clinched a seven year deal with Twentieth Century Fox. Her debut was in the movie Pocketful of Miracles.

Her biggest hit was when she starred as Kim, a sassy American teen in the movie Bye Bye Birdie. This was followed by Viva Las Vegas with Elvis. Her portrayal of Jack Nicholson’s lover in Carnal Knowledge earned an Academy Award nomination. The famed actress continued to star in many smashing hits over the decades. Her most notable works include Carnal Knowledge, Grumpier Old Men, Tommy etc. The stalwart also ventured into TV during the latter part of her career. Her performance in Law and Order won her an Emmy award in 2010 after being nominated multiple times. She collected the award amidst a huge applause and a standing ovation.
