Lourdes started her luck in reporting as a freelancer a Spanish tv network in Chicago, Telemundo. Then she moved to Metro Networks radio stations in Miami, WTMI-FM, and WLRN-FM. The reporter then landed a job in Peoria, WHOI-TV. Lourdes also worked for Indianapolis’ WXIN-TV and WJBK-TV in Detroit.

When she was in Indianapolis, she hosted Hoy en Dia, which was aired on WTTV. It was a public affairs program covered community events and issues. Hoy en Dia was, at the time of her tenure, the only Spanish programming locally.

In 2007, she joined WGN-TV, a licensed television channel based in Chicago. Lourdes then anchored a newscast WGN News at Five in 2009. In the same year, she hosted Adelante Chicago, a biweekly public affairs program in WGN-TV. In 2012 while doing the show in WGN, she was also reporting for WLEY-FM’s Spanish show on a weekday afternoon. In 2014, she became a co-host in WGN Morning News, together with Dan Ponce. It was then reported that the tandem of her and Ponce was the reason of the station’s boost rating.

The reporter won her first Emmy Award and Society of Professional Journalists Award for her public affairs reporting in Hoy en Dia. In Lourdes’ general assignment and investive reporting, she also won 4 Midwest Emmy/Chicago Awards. When she worked for Adelante Chicago, she also won an Emmy Award. In 2014, she was also given a title of Outstanding Achievement for News Specialty Report/Series for her report on "Angel of Lower Wacker Drive.”

In her journalism career paid her well, and she is said to have an estimated net worth of $1 million. It has been recorded that her monthly earning is about $50,000.
