The footballer was named as a goal scorer when he was with Sheffield United, where he scored 171 goals and 293 appearances. Keith was also the highest scorer with the Blades. In 1978, he joined Hull City and earned 57 goals and 132 appearances. The contract was worth 50,000 pounds.

Keith left Hull and returned to Sheffield United with the contract offer of 100,000 pounds from 1981 to 1986. Then, he transferred and played for Leeds United for £125,000 from 1986 to 1987, but he only managed to get 51 appearances and nine goals.
