Peter Capaldi’s Bio


Capaldi happens to be a Scottish actor, writer, and director. Capaldi was born on the 14th of April 1958 with the birth name, Peter Dougan Capaldi. As an actor, he is famous for his roles in Doctor Who and The Thick of It. The 60 years old actor was born in Glasgow, Scotland, UK to Nancy Soutar and Gerald John Capaldi. Capaldi has roots in Scotland, Italy, and Ireland. While growing up, he attended St. Teresa’s Primary School located in Possilpark. Afterward, he went to St. Matthew’s Primary School, Bishopbriggs. He also attended St. Ninian’s High School, Kirkintilloch, and Glasgow School of Art. Capaldi’s love for dramatic performances has been evident since when he was in the primary school. At an early age, he presented a puppet performance. In high school, he belonged to the Antonine Players. Similarly, in Glasgow School of Art, he served as the lead singer and guitarist in a band named the Dreamboys. Capaldi has been honored with several nominations and awards for his movies and series.

Career

Capaldi’s aspiration to be an actor can be seen right from his childhood days as he was actively involved in performances and shows. His career started with minor roles in series before appearing in movies. In 1974, at the tender age of 16, he featured in a stage drama entitled An Inspector Calls. Capaldi made his debut appearance in a movie titled Living Apart Together in 1982. Since then, it has been a constant appearance from one movie to another. He has featured in more than 40 movies and television programs. Some of the movies in which he has featured include Local Hero (1983), John and Yoko: A Love Story (1985), The Lair of the White Worm (1988), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), What Rats Won’t Do(1998), Wild Country (2005), Paddington (2013), World War Z (2013), Paddington (2017).

Apart from movies, he has also featured in several short films and taken voice roles as seen in his role as Rabbit in Christopher Robin (2018), Haunted Hogmanay (2006) among others. The award-winning actor has also featured in television series and worked on various projects with BBC Radio. Capaldi was nominated four times for the British Academy Television Award and he won the Best Male Comedy Performance (2010). Not only has he been recognized as an actor, in 1994, but he was also awarded the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film and BAFTA Award for Best Short Film for his role as director of Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life, his short movie.

The renowned television personality is happily married to an actress and writer just like himself, Elaine Collins. They got married in 1991 in Strathblane after meeting in 1983.
