Kevin Jesse Lee, Jr. was born on September 4, 1992, in Detroit, MI. Growing up, Lee contended in basketball and started wrestling during his junior year at Southfield High School. He enrolled and went to Grand Valley State University where he proceeded with his wrestling career. During his time at college, he was a national competition qualifier and went 37–0 as a sophomore. Lee dropped out to concentrate on a career in mixed martial arts.

Kevin's more youthful sibling is Keith Lee. He is additionally a combat warrior and trains with Kevin at the same gym.

On February 1, 2014, Kevin made his promotional debut introduction against Al Iaquinta at UFC 169. He lost the battle by means of a decision. Lee was booked to confront Gregor Gillespie on November 2, 2019, at UFC 244. Lee ended up winning the fight after a head kick knockout.
