Cristela Alonzo

Cristela Alonzo is a well-known actress, comedian, producer and writer who hails from the country of the United States of America. Cristela Alonzo is popular for having created the famous sitcom called Cristela. On the show she appeared as the titular character and the show was aired on the ABC Network. The show made Cristela Alonzo the first ever woman of a Latina background to produce, create, star and write her on a comedy show on US Primetime.


Personal Life

Cristela Alonzo was born on the 6th of January, in the year 1979, in the city of San Juan, located in the state of Texas, in the country of the United States of America, thereby making Cristela Alonzo a citizen of the country by virtue of her birth. Cristela Alonzo is the youngest sibling of four, her mother, a woman named Natalia Gonzalez worked at a Mexican restaurant for 20 years, often doing double shifts to make ends meet. While Cristela Alonzo’s father, a man named Adalberto Alonzo, was a Mexican. However, her father was abusive and her mother left him while she was pregnant with Cristela Alonzo. Cristela Alonzo has publicly stated that she has never met her father and he passed away in the year 2009.

Cristela Alonzo has three siblings, all of which are older to her. She has 2 brothers named Ruben G Alonzo and Eloy Eduardo Alonzo and a sister named Julisa Maria Alonzo. The siblings and their mother together spent the early years of their life at an abandoned diner as squatters as they were homeless. Cristela Alonzo’s earliest days of brilliance could be seen when she would be the only one to comprehend English in their family and she would watch English TV shows and then re-enact them in Spanish for her mother. Cristela Alonzo said that television and the shows on it was her only escape from a neighborhood plagued with crime and drugs. Throughout her early days, she would spend time with her brothers as her older sister got married young. Cristela Alonzo went to the Webster University, however, she had to drop out due to lack of finances. She took care of her ill mother until she passed away in the year 2002.

Career

Post her mother’s death Cristela Alonzo took up a job as the office manager at Addison Improv. It was in the year 2003, at Addison Improv that she began showcasing her talent via stand-up comedy. She has stated that it was part of the process to talk about her mother and the grief of the family.

Soon she moved to Los Angeles and fulfilled her destiny of becoming a big-time comedian. Her biggest success is her creation of the famous sitcom called Cristela. On the show she appeared as the titular character and the show was aired on the ABC Network thereby making her the first ever woman of a Latina background to produce, create, star and write her on a comedy show on US Primetime. Her book "Untitled Memoir" is about to published by Atria Books on 2019.
