Wenger’s Bio


Arsene Wenger’s full name is Arsene Charles Ernest Wenger and the sixty-nine years old football coach was born on the 22nd of October 1949. Wenger was born in Strasbourg, France to Alphonse who was a village team coach and doubled as his father. The name of his mother is Louise Wenger. He grew up in Duttlenheim with his family and he is the last of the three children in the family. Wenger’s love for football was greatly influenced by his father.

From the tender age of 6, Arsene started his journey in football. By the time he was 12, he was playing in the FC Duttlenheim. He attended the University of Strasbourg to study economics but while still in school, he joined Mullhouse where he further developed his passion. At Mullhouse, he learned from a coach named Paul Frantz. Upon graduation, he played 67 matches from 1975 to 1979 and scored 4 times. He earned a manager’s diploma from Paris in 1981, thereafter; his career in football coaching began. Wenger began his managerial career in 1984 with a French club known as Nancy. Afterward, in 1987, he became the coach of AS Monaco and a Japanese club named Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1994; although his period with the Japanese club was a short one.

Wenger became the coach of Arsenal in 1996 after Bruce Rioch was relieved of his position as coach. Since then, Wenger has managed the club and seen it through numerous games and wins. Wenger is not just a football coach but also an ex-player who has the most successful and longest period in the history of Arsenal. At the point when Wenger joined the team, it was in a discouraging state. But the diet-conscious coach recorded astounding success in the early years of assuming office. The team won the FA Cup in 1998 to the amazement of their audience. It was also won in 2002 and 2004. Following the early success of the team in 1998, the team struggled through a period of scarcity of trophies till 2001. However, there was a revitalization in 2002 as the team won all their fixtures for that season.

Subsequently, the team’s performances waned once more in 2004 and lasted till 2006. Despite his controversial decisions and criticisms, Wenger has succeeded in restructuring the team to maintain a unique standard. The coach who has been tagged The Professor is known globally as one of the greatest football coaches of all time. In 2006, Wenger was welcomed to the English Football Hall of Fame. In April of 2018, Wenger announced his retirement as coach of Arsenal.

Is Wenger Married?

Wenger got married to his long term girlfriend, Annie Brosterhous, in 2010. They have a daughter together in 1997 named Lea Wenger. However, the marriage lasted for just five years and they were separated in 2015 on the claims of Wenger’s infidelity.
