Amy Lee’s Biography

Amy Lynn Hartzler was born as Amy Lynn Lee to her parents, John Lee, a disc jockey and mother, Sara Cargill, on the 13th of December 1981 which puts her age at 36. Lee was born in Riverside, California, United States and resides in Brooklyn, New York with her hometown in Little Rock, Arkansas. Amy Lee has two sisters named Carrie and Lori with two deceased siblings. Her family finally settled in Little Rock, Arkansas, upon moving to various locations such as West Palm Beach, Florida, and Rockford, Illinois, while growing up. It was eventually in Arkansas that her band, Evanescence, was established.


Lee has not only functioned effectively in her band but has also contributed immensely to other musical projects such as Nightmare Revisited and Muppets: The Green Album by Walt Disney Record. Amy has collaborations with Korn, David Hodges, and Seether and has performed soundtracks for the movies War Story in 2014, “Speak to Me” for Voice from the Stone in 2007 as well as Indigo Grey: The Passage in 2015. She sings a vocal range of mezzo-soprano.

There was Shau Morgan with whom she performed a duet titled “Broken” as a part of Seether’s album, Disclaimer II. He is the lead singer of the band and their relationship lasted for two years from 2003-2005.

Their separation was as a result of his addiction to substances and the break up influenced her “Call me when You’re Sober”. Subsequently, she revealed her engagement to a long time friend and therapist, Josh Hartzler on the evening of 8th of January 2007. They were married on 6th May of the same year and had their honeymoon in The Bahamas. The couple presently has a son, Jack Lion Hartzler born to them on July 24, 2014.

In 2000, Lee became a graduate of Pulaski Academy, Little Rock. However, she is a drop out of Middle Tennessee State University where she studied music theory and composition.

Lee started as a co-founder of Evanescence but revealed in an interview on AOL Music that the first songs she ever wrote, “Eternity of the Remorse” and “A Single Tear”, were written at the age of 11 in response to the desire to be a classical composer while the second was done as an assignment in her 8th grade. Their first two Eps were recorded in 1998 and 1999 respectively with the debut album titled, Fallen. Moody separated from the band in 2003 due to “creative differences”. Meanwhile, Lee has solo projects which ran from 2000-2007. In 2006, Amy was made the American Chairperson for Out of the Shadows. On September 30, 2016, she released an album, Dream Too Much.
